The Tooth Ferry Story
Dr. Posthuma started her own dental practice to provide care in a manner that aligns with her ethics, passion and values. The Tooth Ferry is proud to be a family owned- and operated-practice, and we hope you feel the enthusiasm we have for providing a quality patient experience with each and every visit. At The Tooth Ferry, we want to take the time to get to know your child and work with them at their pace, to create a dental home that they are excited to return to for many years to come.
Treating children in the dental office requires adaptive thinking and creative problem solving. Children are varied in their needs, developmental stages and comfort level with medical/dental environments. For this reason, Dr. Posthuma recognizes that dental treatment for children is not one-size-fits-all.
How is Pediatric Dentistry Different?
Following dental school, pediatric dentists go on to complete 2-3 years of residency training in order to become pediatric specialists. Pediatric dental specialists have advanced training in topics such as: evaluation and management of dental growth and development, behavior guidance techniques, sedation dentistry and pediatric restorative procedures. This advanced training makes pediatric dentists uniquely prepared to manage your child’s dental care utilizing the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines. Choosing your child’s dentist is as important as choosing their pediatrician; just as in medicine, a pediatric specialist is preferable because they are highly trained at detecting and managing issues that are unique to the pediatric patient population.
What Does It Mean to Be Board-Certified?
Board certification is a voluntary, two-step testing process undertaken in order to demonstrate to the public that a specialist is practicing with an industry-leading standard of excellence, skills and knowledge within their field. Board-certified dentists must complete annual training and education in order to uphold their certification. Dr. Posthuma is proud to have maintained board certification since 2016.
